Below are the experiences from our wonderful trip to Barcelona and few really beautiful , heavenly beaches in Costa Brava ( north of Barcelona ).

Hope it’ll help you to organise your trip as well.

Barcelona is an enchanting seaside city with boundless culture, fabled architecture, and a world-class drinking and dining scene” .  http://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/barcelona

If you like small , beautiful , less crowded beaches and private beach for yourself and family , then you must travel a bit to north of Barcelona.

1. Stay

I’ll prefer staying in Airbnb, as you can get tons of information with the help of hosts and which will help you to plan your stay optimally.

We stayed in district “Gothic Quarter” and really liked oldest portion of city.

2. Once You Land

Once you land in city, first goto Tourist office  ( there is one at airport itself ) , get Bacelona City Map , Maps of Public Transports ( Underground , Bus etc )

Or if your Airbnb host arranges these for you , then it’s best case scenario

3.   Airport to City

4.  Public Transport ,  City Exploration

-> One can reach almost each part of city with help of underground trains and buses. Based on your need either purchase 10 trip ticket or day pass

-> If you’re visiting first time , I will suggest to take “Hop On Hop Off” bus service and explore city for couple of days without wasting time and stressing yourself.

-> What to see and what to skip

From our earlier first big trip to Paris , we learnt to prepare a list upfront to save time after landing.

Do create your own list with democratic with help of your family. We normally refer to

In case you want to visit as many places make sure to skip museums , zoo , buy tickets upfront for attractions which need tickets & having long queues.

5. What not to miss

Transbordador Aeri del Port
, Basilica of the Sagrada Familia , Magic Fountain ( make sure day it’s open , as it doesn’t work on all days and sadly no information on the site ) , Tibidabo Mountain , FC Barcelona , The Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar

6.  Food

Avoid restaurants which display boards with Big pictures of different kind of food, English menu or nice girl smiling at you and inviting to come in.

Try to find one which is little far from tourist spot/s and you can see many locals having food there.

Main food to try out are spanish omelette , rice with fish / chicken in non-touristic place.

7. Places NearBy Barcelona ( Costa Brava Beaches )

We had been to really small , hardly crowded and super scenic beaches for couple of days. You can do hours of hiking in forest on one side and beach on other side.

One can stay in Lloret de mar or Tossa de mar and visit near by beaches by hiking / car / boat ride

As beaches in Barcelona are really crowded , it’s better to travel for 1-2 hours to reach these pristine beaches. Enjoy whole of private beach and sea just for your and your family with only with handful of tourists and / or locals

Best time to visit April – October.

Some beaches in Spain are “Nude Beaches” , so get info upfront about this. You don’t want to take your family with kids to such beaches.

In case you get cheap flight tickets to Girona , this is also good option instead of flying to Barcelona.
