Buda-pest is one more must visit city in Eastern Europe. While writing this blog the conversion between Euro to Forint was 1 ~ 282 and Euro to INR 1 ~ 72. It is good destination for budget travel and it’s as beautiful as any of the Western European city.
You will need minimum 2 full days; to explore must see touristic places. But if you really want to explore city fully and enjoy leisurely; you will need minimum 4 days.
There are multiple ways to see attractions and explore city; Hop On Hop Off bus service or buy day ticket and use any of the public transport services ( Bus , Tram , Sub way ) which are well connected and runs quite longer time or rent a bike , do tour guide walking or bike tour etc
In case you want to explore city on your own and want to save time , visit tourist info main office in city center and get few good maps stating main attractions , public transport connectivity etc . Plan your day’s visits based on public transport connectivity to attractions. This will save lots of your precious time.
When To Visit Touristic Attractions
If you want to save time at places which are too touristic start day early and first visit most popular places ( refer TripAdvisor for mostly visited attractions by tourist ).
The best season to visit is from April – August .
Time Saver Tips
You can save lot of time by not going to popular restaurants for lunch instead carry some food from bakery or goto lesser known restaurants.
Once you’re tired exploring city throughout the day , goto one of the nicest restaurants ( check trip advisor reviews ) and spend long time to enjoy dinner.
Must Try in Buda-pest
1> Turkish Bath – There are 5 major baths; I suggest try one each after day’s tiring exploration.
2> Caving – 1 million year old caves in Budapest http://www.budapest.com/city_guide/sights/caves/szemlohegyi_cave.en.html , http://caving.hu/
3> Dance program – There are regular shows at Danube palace , http://www.hungariakoncert.hu/en/program/folklore-performances. You really enjoy live music and live energetic performance for few hours
4> Cake shops – Check trip advisor for most popular once. Best thing about Europe is each country has got unique cakes and you don’t feel the taste is getting repeated.
5> Parliament visit – There is guided tour to take you short tour of very beautiful parliament building
6> Traditional Hungarian Dress – In case you’re tempted to buy this traditional hungarian dress do NOT buy in Budapest instead visit nearby village to buy at much cheaper price.
https://www.pinterest.com/panikarenka/hungarian-folk-dress/ , ask tourist info about nearby village. It is worth a day trip and will save you lots of money. I came to know dress costing 100 Euro in Budapest will cost 10 – 15 euro in village.
7> Hill train , Church , Palaces , Bridges
8> Tik tak hummus – Best hummus we had in Europe till date . Lesser known but really delicious
