Schorndorf to Welzheim Steam Train Ride through Scenic Forest and Mountain Route
If you’re in Stuttgart , this is must try activity for whole family and it may take half to one full day. But this train runs only on public holidays and week end. Do check the time table on their website http://schwaebische-waldbahn.de/
Take S2 towards Schorndorf and get down at last stop. You can either take 1 way or return ticket in the train itself. If you wish to have specific compartment you can book in advance through their website or you need to be in last compartment which is unreserved.
The whole journey takes around 1 hour. You can get down at Welzheim , walk around village , visit nearby parks and take next train back to Schrondorf
If you wish to spend more time , each of the villeages on the route has some unique things to see and do some activities like hiking
Märklin Model Train Museum + Shop
If you’re model toy train enthusiast; this is must visit place in case you’re in stuttgart region. You need to take RB from Stuttgart Hbf to Göppingen Hbf , after getting down take either bus 1 or 6 to the museum and shop.
I was expecting it to be huge museum but it’s quite small. It has got few built train models and some toy trains for kids to play.
Most of the info is in Deutsch so you may get disappointed in case you don’t know the language.
There are no restaurants nearby so do carry some food and drinks with you. Also the bus frequency is less to this side of town , do check time table and museum/ shop timings.

Triberg ( Birth place of Cuckoo Clocks , Black Forest Cake in the middle of Black Forest )
There is no direct train from Stuttgart to Triberg ,which is really strange as this is most famous village in the region. You need to check with DB office for best connectivity. Sadly it takes 2:15 – 3 hrs one way with changing minimum 2 trains.
Within village as well public transport is bad , to reach different places is quite difficult.
